The Elusive Rainbow
Distance, they say, makes the heart grow fond.
But what if the distance makes a crack and goes on for longer?
There is no cure for pain from loss,
Nor is there solace for the ache that one will feel.
So we sift through the memories and the photographs left behind,
We tell the stories that we thought we had forgotten,
We play the music that remind us of what had been,
And we look to the skies for that rainbow, that thread of hope,
To remind us,
There were brighter days and happier times,
There were long, soothing drives against a beautiful backdrop,
There were sounds of laughter and warm embraces,
And in the distant future,
It will be as it was,
When the tears have dried and the sniffles have cleared.
When that elusive rainbow shows itself,
That unicorn, that thread of hope,
That glimmer of a smile.
