“More Than Maybe”: A Playlist In The Making

“Love is the lyrics to someone else’s melody.”

I am undoubtedly a fan of YA fiction. Unlike a drama series, however, few titles have stayed with me long after I had closed the back cover. More Than Maybe is one of those. It’s been a week since I swiped that final page on my Kindle and yet…here we are.

Luke and Vada.

Before coming across this genius book by Erin Hahn, it had been at least a couple of months since my last YA, or any book, in fact. I had been on a K-Drama binge and finally decided that, well, maybe it’s time to give reading another go. I’m so glad I did and chose this one, for the reason that — a. I love a good rom-com, and b. I love a good playlist, and reviews told me that you can practically hear the music through the pages.

They weren’t kidding. With each chapter, I was thoroughly charmed by Vada’s infectious wit and Luke’s subtle sexy-shy personality. I found myself pausing everytime the characters would send each other songs and searching for them on my Spotify app, not to mention highlighting quote after enrapturing quote that would resonate in the days to come.

But more than the details, what captured me with this book was simply the authenticity in the storytelling, itself. Erin Hahn was able to paint a vivid picture of what it is like to be coming of age, reaching into yourself, and summoning that courage to turn what you believe into reality. It is also about being brave enough to stand for yourself and the people that you care about, regardless. Most of all, it tells a story of love — love for yourself, for what you do, what you can do, and…well, falling in love, in all its knee-weakening, heart-wrenching glory.

Thank you, Erin, for bringing Luke and Vada to such extraordinary life. This is a story that is relatable with anyone, no matter what the age.

I just wish that More Than Maybe and Break For You actually existed in my playlist.
