Cash Me In

Grayer than most, that’s what it was.

When the call of the sheets is stronger than the coffee brewing in the kitchen,

When listening to the sound of the soft drizzle outside the window is more enticing than facing the day’s promise.

Because, really, what is promised? Let me count the ways.

A new day.

A new task.

A new dream.

Or, a new day, with an old task,

Waiting and unfinished.

An old dream, the same as yesterday and the day before,

Uncompromising and unbending.

Or, perhaps, along the way,

A new fate.

A kinder fate.

A clearer fate.

So deal me a card that I can cash in.

Deal me a card of mystic and wonder.

A card of magic and longing.

A card of love and inspiration.

That today, the unexpected may become real.

What was hopeless…won’t be, after all.

What was frozen will be thawed in the summer sun.

And what had turned gray will be brighter than yesterday.
